Families with incarcerated loved ones rely on video visits to stay connected. These calls allow parents to see their children, spouses to share everyday moments, and families to maintain bonds that are critical for emotional support and successful reentry after incarceration.
Recently, ViaPath Technologies (formerly known as GTL) changed its video visitation system to allow only one person on camera at a time. This policy prevents families from appearing together during visits and removes the shared moments that help keep families connected despite the distance created by incarceration.
For many families, video visits are not just conversations—they are a lifeline. These calls allow loved ones to see each other’s lives, maintain relationships, and provide emotional support that research shows is essential for rehabilitation and successful reentry into society.
Back2Life Project is calling for this policy to be reconsidered so families can once again appear together during video visits.
Families should not have to choose who gets to be seen.
